Hi! Welcome to this Forum!

It depends on your child, the standard required and the quality and scale of the competition.

Which area are you in and which schools are you looking at?

If you want a relaxed approach to the exams then you can start now as year 5 start gets too stressful with the workload. It also depends on individual children as some are fast learners and can handle stress. Getting an honest and good assessment can also help in the decision.

You don't need a tutor if you can teach your child yourself as most material is available and there is lots of help on this forum as well.
