Laura Ingalls (from Little House on the Prairie) - suits girls with long hair!

Or one of the characters from the Roman mysteries?

Or how about the first Mrs Rochester if you want to run wild....

Lady Macbeth...

Master yoyo went as Banquo's ghost in year 6 complete with fake slit throat . (his suggestion- he always was a strange child)

Not necessarily historical but easily recognisable and minimal parental input required :D ....

Tracy Beaker - joke shop curly wig, jeans, t-shirt and an attitude!

Little Red Riding Hood - 1 1/2 metres red cotton, bit of sewing (or wonderweb  ) and a picnic basket.

I was hoping this sort of thing was done and dusted by the time they got to secondary school.

Thanks guys. Tempted by Lady Macbeth, I think Titania would be lovely but she seems to think it would be uncool; lame, I think she said. (I also suggested Bottom, but she's not that keen  )

My DS is going as Romeo so another suggestion might be Juliet! Easy to do with a long party dress. I also have to go in fancy dress as I work in the same school my DS attends and am going as Rapunzel. Can't wait :!: Hope you find the right outfit and your DD has a fab day :!:

my favourite outfit for Book Week was Red Riding Hood - Roald Dahl style.

Red Power Dressing Suit, briefcase labelled Genuine Pigskin and a fur collar (100% wolf). The most bizarre was probably a Quentin Blake bird..which could be cunningly changed into a pirate for when I had to go off site to the children;s library ..it can be tiring strutting down the high street in long tail and feather boa you know.

PS eyeliner makes a very effective tooth blackener

You are one scary lady, Yumyum. :D

Alice (in Wonderland) won in the end (handily had one hanging in the wardrobe).
