Christ's hospital or a good grammar school

Post by kolog »

We are trying to decide where our son should go. He has been offered a place at Christ's hospital in Horsham and also Reading School.
We've been to both schools, one thing that concerns us about Christ's Hospital, is the emphasis on providing for children from difficult backgrounds. Would this cause some problems within the boarding environment?
Is there anyone who can give some unbiased information about any of these schools.

My son sat and passed for both of these schools a few years back. He had very strong views on both schools, but I shall pm you with the details. Suffice to say they are different from each other in a lot of ways, ie single sex/coed, full board/weekly. Be wise in your choice - your son would have done the overnight assessment at CH - what did he think?
I will pm you.

We have rejected a place at GS for Christ's Hospital. It may help if you go to
the Unofficial Christ's Hospital Forum. I have given the link to an Advice/Tips Thread for new Parents but there are postings by Staff, Parents,6th Formers and Past Puplis.

Hi piers3,

Just curious to know why you waited until National Allocations Day before accepting a place at CH?

We had applied to several GS and it waited for the results to discuss with our Ds . It would have been a bit arrogant of us to dismiss making Ds sit 11+ and not wait for the results.

Anyway despite getting a GS place Ds wanted to go to Christ's Hospital.

My DD will be starting at CH in September, and my other DC is already there. Both turned down GS places to go to CH.
