Hi honscupboard
DD1 sat for Parkstone in Nov and will be starting in Sept. DD2 will be sitting Nov2010.
I did much of DD1's prep myself but did get her tutored for last 8 weeks.
DD2 is going to tutor from Nov 2009.
Parkstone only tests VR and NVR both Nfer multiple choice format.
DD1 has said since the tests that both tests were of a harder standard than any of her practice materials. In addition the NVR test only covers two types of question. Means you have to be pretty confident with all types in case your least favourite type is half the paper!
We started with logic type puzzles, lots of word games (Boggle, Countdown etc) and encouraging "quality" reading with understanding. DD2 now keeps a dictionary by her bed!! She is determined not to be outdone.
Good luck with your journey- it's certainly an adventure
