pass mark for this year

Post by jingle »

Hello
Have heard this morning that the kent pass mark is cumulative 360 as last year, but with minimum score of 117 in any one paper. Can anyone confirm this?

Hi Jingle,

I haven't heard anything but was told by KCC that the pass mark would not be disclosed until the results were released. So unless your source is an "insider" this might not be true! Out of interest, do you mean that any of the scores could be 117 as long as the cumulative score is 360 or can only one score be 117?

I am not sure I have made that very clear! To illustrate I mean, would 117, 117, 126 be a pass or a fail?

I think that would be a fail. I think in previous years you've had to get 120 or over in two papers and a lower mark or over (eg 115) in the third.

Thanks Bexley Mum 2, that is what I thought. I wonder what determines the lower mark, is it usually 115?

In our experience, 2 boys sitting it 2 years apart, it has been 115.

I think it is to give some leeway to kids who are bright and capable in two of the subjects and maybe not too great in the third.

Have heard the same, it's 360, with a minimum of 117.

My source (v reliable in the past) is sure this is correct, although obviously I cannot confirm for certain. Roll on the 19th!

Hello again
Heard this from someone who should definately be in 'the know'. Think this means 140 140 116 is a fail whereas 117 120 123 would be a pass or120 120 120 also a pass. Don't know about 117 117 126 though, think this would be ok but not really sure.

117,117,126 wouldn't be a pass. You have to get 120 or over in 2 papers and whatever the lower number is set at (115/116/117) in the 3rd.

I don't know why they can't just combine the scores and set a pass mark -that would also give some leeway to children who are a bit weaker in one subject area.

Couldn't agree more! Am fairly realistic about my sons chances because his maths is likely to let him down. He is strong in the other two. (usually) Some counties don't even do maths I believe
