The one we filled out was VERY intrusive - although this is not meant as a criticism. Expect to tell them pretty much everything including the price of your house, car(s), house contents etc as well as income and outgoings.

Is it right Ed's Mum that you have to fill in the forms again each year?

Yes. each and every year. Although they do say that it would not be removed/altered unless there had been fairly major changes to our income.

The effort that goes into filling out the long form means that my son can attend what I consider to be a super school. It's well worth the time and effort!

At DD school they take into account income and assets. However there is no hard and fast rule about who receives a bursary.

"Parents of any child who has been offered a place may apply for a Bursary if they feel that they cannot afford to pay full fees. Bursaries can be of any size, from a small proportion of the fee to 100% of the fee for parents who cannot afford to make any contribution. Inevitably, there are, each year, more applications for Bursaries than can be supported by the Foundation Trust, and decisions are made on the basis of academic potential and family circumstances"

Two unusual features. One-you make an offer upfront of what you believe you can afford to pay. Two-it is done on an honesty basis with 1 in 10 bursaries checked each year.

"Once a Bursary is given, this is generally held to the end of the stage in which it has been awarded - subject to parents’ financial circumstances remaining unchanged, their timely payment of fees and to satisfactory academic performance and conduct on the part of the pupil - but may be renewed for the subsequent stage"

A freind of our who applied has to answer quesions about their sports club memberships, equity in their house, inheritances, holidays etc . They have to be intrusive because it would not be seen as fair to families who give up luxuries to pay fees, get grandparerents to help etc to see people swanning off on hols to exotic destinations, or being members of expensive clubs. Some people ( not suggesting you, OP!!!) tjhink bursaries are there to gvei thema free education so they do not have to curtail their lifestyle.
Best Regards,
Thea
