NO BUS????

Post by Nathair »

Talk about stress at every turn

We went to have a look around Skipton Girls today. We all thought it was great and definitely the kind of school DD will flourish at.
I came home all ready to put in the CAF on-line when I noticed one thing missing from the prospectus. Every other school we have looked at has included a bus timetable and shown all the pickup's and times. Skipton didn't :? So I rang the school and asked if they could confirm a bus went to them from Colne, they told me to ring the education office in Harrogate, who passed me to another number dedicated to school transport, they told me to look on-line and gave me a site: http://www.nyschoolbus.info/ but, this (as far as I can tell) only give details of buses in North Yorkshire, Colne certainly doesn't feature. So I rang Lancashire school transport and nobody could tell me yes or no  The manager could look into it for me, but he is out to lunch  They have taken my details and should get back to me latter, but the girls have a show at school this afternoon so I will be out.
ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH

Surely it shouldn't be like this, A girl could pass the 11+, get a place and then not be able to get a grammar education because there is no bus!!!!! I can't drive and we have my youngest to get to school too!

Don't panic Nathair, what about a regular bus.

A school bus probably a bit much to expect, unless considerable numbers of children go to Skipton.

There's no official bus for my dd into Ripon either.

We send DD on the public bus which runs every 20 minutes into Ripon, she then gets off at the bus station and walks up to the school (a 15 minute walk) or if it's raining there is a connecting bus which will take her up to school but it's a bit hit and miss. This transport is paid for by me (buying an annual bus pass REALLY saves) but I still find it a little bit cheaper than paying for the indie school we had lined up

Have a look at your public buses and see which ones run across that way.

Hi
I am sure there is a bus from Colne - loads of kids come from there. One lad I know travels from Burnley to Colne to get the bus and 2 brothers from Barrowford travel to get the bus in Colne.

You have to get yr name on some list I think as places get booked up - the brothers mum did tell me some time ago.... I'll try and find out ..

PANIC NOT!!!

PS PM Footymad - her daughter gets the bus from Colne

Thanks Herman. I did look at public transport, that leaves Colne at 7.30 to get to Skipton at 8.15, the next bus gets in at 9.00 and school starts at 8.50. She would have to go on the early bus if it was the only option, but I was sure there would be a school bus.
Let me know what you can find out before I lose my ever lossening grip on sanity :D
