trafford exam - missed by 10 marks

Post by dispomum »

My DS took the trafford exam and failed by 10 marks. The night before the exam I found him in his room, curled in a ball and uncommunicative. All he would do was cry. I eventually (after a long while) got him to talk to me and he told me how stressed he was about his exam. This was followed by an extremely poor night's sleep and consequently, the result above. His father (a Doctor, but not a paediatrician) says we were right to send him to do the exam as we did, but I plan to tell the appeal panel about this episode as one of the reasons for the result. I truly believe that his result reflects his state of mind on the day, not his ability. Do any readers have any experience of anything similar?

I've experienced this from the other side of the table, and I'm sure it would be taken into account, but the further away from the qualifying mark, the stronger the case usually needs to be. I suggest you'll need a lot of evidence of very high ability.

Thanks Etienne
He is very able and was predicted a high pass. I will add all his academic evidence to the appeal as well, but I do believe it was the main reason for the mark

Thanks for your help

I found this site last year after my child missed Sale by 6 marks. She was doing very well at school but just didn't perform well on the day - no real extenuating circumstances. At our appeal we presented academic evidence from school and a letter from the head teacher saying that she was expected to pass and strongly recommending her for grammar school. We won the appeal. The appeals advice on this site is excellent - I didn't know where to start before I found it.

I agree - I would be lost without the support and advice from the people on this site

If you look back in this section to around December 2008 there are some posts from people appealing for Sale and Altrincham grammar schools which may help.
