Why do these boys bother working hard to get a good mark in the exam that qualifies them for interview, if those who didn't get an interview can call the headmaster and demand one?

An actual parent told you he/she has done so and it worked, or you heard from a friend of a firend of a friend, etc?
A very-very rich one?
Why do they bother with the exams then? (Is it a sought after school?)
Are you sure they did not make it up to make you angry?
Alive or dead? (scrap this, it belongs to the 20 questions, but not for this case!)
