How many children sat the 11+ this year in Bucks?
Does anyone know how many children took the 11+ exam in Bucks this year? Normally about 5,000 children in Bucks and 2,000 OOC but just wondered if the numbers are significantly up this year.

Hi quinn5
We won't know for some while yet, but the numbers really don't change that much from year to year. There is an "annual rumour" that goes round on this topic - you can read last year's version, and my post debunking it, here!

(The pic has disappeared over the last year, but it was little green men, just so you know. )

On the thread from last year I wrote:

The tested cohort for 2009 entry (not those taking the recent test for 2010) was 7305, a massive increase of 13 pupils.Sally-Anne wrote:The overall size of the Year 6 cohort is very stable at present, and the tested cohort has also been very stable for the last 3 years (in 2008 it was 7292, 2007 was 7219)

HUGE, isn't it? Mind you, did it have to be unlucky thirteen?Midget Man wrote::lol:I was expecting a very bug number to appear at the end after seeing the 'massive increase' so was quite amused when I saw the no.13!
We won't know for a while, but anyone with the time to spare to make a request to Bucks CC under the Freedom of Information Act would be able to get the information.quinn5 wrote:When are the numbers made "official"? Presumably, they already know how many children sat the exam (in- and out-of-county) for the 2010 entry.

Hi heartmum
In 2009 the tested cohort was 7446. As at 20 November 2241 (31%) children had qualified outright on 121+.
There are around 850 appeals most year, and with an average success rate of 40%, approximately 340 further children were deemed qualified by 1st March.
In addition there were late testers (112 of them as at 2nd March). We can assume that around 31% of them passed.
Does that solve the problem?

A couple of people have now received their appeal documentation and they have kindly PMed me with the top-line statistics for this year's results. They are as follows (2009 entry point figures in brackets):
Total cohort: 8341 (8371)
Tested cohort: 7327 (7334)
Qualified as at 20/11/09: 2250 (2241)
% qualified: 30.7% (30.5%)
So, the news is that there is no news.
