Shaving for boys ...

Post by Sally-Anne »

The dread day has arrived - DS1 has grown fur!

DH is possibly the most incompetent shaver I have ever known - the bathroom is spattered with gore on a daily basis.

So, hot tips please folks! Electric or blade? If it's electric, which brand? Foam or don't bother? Aftershave or not?

(Yes, you can post brand names - it's my thread after all!)

All advice gratefully received ... :D

The OH say's to get him a gillette sensor, use a shaving gel and not foam and one that is for sensitive skin.

This looked quite useful...

There are different opinions whether to go with the grain of you hair or against. Starting out, your son should go the direction his hair grows – with the grain. To get a really close shave, go against the grain of the hair. Shave for a half an inch, rinse the razor and repeat until the entire face is finished. Again, when your son first begins to shave, it will most likely be some stray hairs on his chin and upper lip and the hair will be thinner. As it get more coarse and his beard thickens, he will need to do the whole process and repeat it every 1 to 3 days.

we've gone for electric - doesn't need to turn into a major surgical procedure and also no need to hog the bathroom for quite as long..

Go for a blade, preferably a Sensor or other multi-bladed type. Make sure face is washed with soap and rinsed with warm/very warm water then lathered with a gel, shave with the direction of the hair-pulling the skin tight, rinse with cold water and then use an after shave balm.
And that ladies and gents is why I have a beard! Way too much like hard work.Image

and remember it is not so daunting to start with-only a bit of fluff on the top lip for quite some time which won't need doing very often
