Now that the exams are over...

Post by TP123 »

DS sat his last exam today and what a relief it is!! We have been partying all weekend.

Now I am wondering if we should just chill all the way to yr 7 OR should i be looking for additional activities (like street dancing/tennis/guitar) so that he is not sitting idle at home and watching too much tv/playing too much WII.

I asked him about it tonight but he didn't really know what he wanted to do. I am thinking of at least letting him be for a few weeks/a month.

What did everyone else do post 11+. Chill or keep busy??

I'm not advocating this necessarily, but we allowed our son to set the pace. He chose to chill!

ooo chill definitely !!!!

Life is one long series of striving to the next hurdle or exam or whatever.

The art of REALLY chilling out after one event and before the next starts is a skill in itself....

There will be plenty to do when year 7 starts, so reckon a bit of fun now is in order!....

Bit like the old saying..

Excellent!

Chill makes my life easier and think that is where son wants to head too. We are definitely doing "nothing" for a month. To give us a chance to be son and mum again (does that make sense)?

not that the experience was all bad - but was tougher than i thought.

thanks for the very quick responses! much appreciated.

I suppose it very much depends what type of school they are going to next and the importance that school places upon the results of the SATs.

My son went on to an indie where they didn't take SATs into account. If the school uses the results to set them, or to use them to projest their results at end of KS3 etc, then I guess they are pretty important.

DD went from indie to state and they coped withouts SATS - she wasn't the only one I don't suppose, she wasn't setted in anything until the beginning of year 8 (languages).

I am afraid that as far as I can see the KS3 targets are gobbledygook - particularly as the local Girls GS finish KS3 at the end of year 8, whereas the boys go to year 9.
Last year we had siblings an academic year apart at neighbouring GS doing the KS3 SATS at the same time. Thank goodness the SATS are no more..

I have to say that i am very confused about SATS. I know that they have removed KS1 and KS3 - so why keep KS2?

By May - what are the chances of them removing KS2 as well? Fingers crossed!
