New member - are your Medway children also doing Kent test?

Post by rubyhettybetty »

I thought 'no' til last week - at the tutor's we overheard a conv which made us think - and now daughter says she wants to do both, the Kent test to get her nerves out of the way...

What is everyone else doing?

Personally I don't think its particularly 'right' to do the Kent Test just to 'get nerves out of the way' if you have absolutely no intention of putting a Kent school on your SCAF. However there are no rules against this.

I agree with Medway mum about nerves not being a good reason to try for a place you don't intend to use even if successful.

Also the Kent test for those not attending Kent schools is 4 papers and v gruelling. I'd not be keen to put my child through it unless I had intentions to send them to a Kent school.

Good luck tho x

yes i agree it is gruelling for them and for you, i would only put my dc in for kent test if I would seriously consider a kent grammar as a choice - that is my child and i liked the kent school and it was convenient for us transport wise. 8)

Kent children sit NVR, VR, Maths and do a piece of writing.

Can you give any more detail about the 4th paper for OOC? It would be useful to know for future reference

Thanks

Yoyo - OOC do the same as in county students - 3 papers and a writing piece. The disadvantage of doing Kent tests as an OOC student is that you have to do them all in one sitting - which makes it very gruelling indeed!

also if you look at the proposed dates the tests will be on consecutive Saturdays in Sept - rather than a month apart as this year. I think exhausting a child a week b4 the medway test could be counter-productive .

Some schools do practice tests - you could enquire if your school will do this.

OOC kent practice 11/09/10
Kent 11+ 18/09/10
Medway 11+ 25/09/10

How awfull to have to put our little cherubs through that for 3 consecutive saturdays, i for one would not fancy doing that myself !!!
