Neighbourly etiquette
Just wanted to know what the feeling is on going round to meet neighbours. Any time I have moved house, within 1-2 weeks I knock on the door either side to introduce myself and my family - not because I want to be chummy but because I think it's nice manners and I don't want the first contact to be 6 months down the line when dug has chewed their petunias or an emergency/problem!. But I've now got to the point where I'm a little fed up of introducing myself. Would it not be good manners for the neighbours to welcome the new family moving in. Maybe I'm being daft and should have grown up in the 50's when we were all more neighbourly!
It's tricky really. Ideally they would be the ones doing the knocking.
Many people are happy keeping themselves to themselves though. Do what feels right for you.
I have found that the more urban the environment, the less people seem to want to socialise, with the reverse being true of a rural environment.

I think this is semi-rural. In fairness it is half term so they maybe away. I'll go round at the end of next week if I don't hear from them first. If all else fails then you lot will have to come down for a big drunken (not that I get drunk) house-warming sleepover.
So far I love it in Glos. Shop assistants are much nicer and I had to remember to not go round the supermarket like a formula one driver. The air feels so clean and I'm looking forward to joining some clubs. Oh dear, I must be getting old!

I met my neighbour's straight away when moving to the village, cannot believe the difference in how people are! One woman we met at the jumble sale a few day's later had dropped through information on the local ballet classes and cubs/scouts and the number for newspapers and a local milkman
Hopefully you'll get to meet your neighbour's very soon Tips, bake them a cake and take it round

Me being the nosey sort of person that I am (I like to think I'm welcoming but everyone else thinks I'm nosey ) I sort of 'arrange' to be going out the front/back door as the new neighbours are moving in, thus effecting a mutual meeting and introduction - makes it very easy to talk at the next meeting/offer them round for a coffee etc etc etc

I went around a few days after moving in. Had retired couples on either side. They were both lovely. One of them came over the next day with flowers from her garden and home made cheese scones. Sadly one couple passed away and the other has moved away but they were so nice that I'm glad I was the one who had taken the first step.
