Hi tbag
I'm not sure if there is a specific exam ??? Perhaps there is.
I know of a few kids who have joined Ermysted;s and SGHS after year 7. Some moved into the area and a few came from local schools.
There seem to be rather more at EGS. In fact the only ones I have heard of at SGHS have come from outside the area (parents relocating).
I think that the ones who are taken are doing extremely well at their current school.
It would be best to discuss it with the admissions dept at the LEA as they are likely to be able to point you in the right direction

Taken from Policy document for Skipton Girls High School:
Entry into years 8 to 11
The maximum admission limit of 112 applies to all
years from year 7 to year 11. Assessment of
suitability for a grammar school education for
prospective entrants for years 8 to 11 is arranged
using tests produced by the school in English,
mathematics and science. Further details of these
tests are available from the school on request.
Such assessment will only be carried out for an
individual pupil once in any academic year. An
offer of a place following this assessment will only
be made if the number of students currently in the
year group is below the maximum admission limit
of 112. If one or more places is available, and
more students taking the assessment are
deemed suitable for a grammar school education
than there are places, then the over subscription
criteria outlined above will be used to determine
which applicants are offered places.
