Necessary distance from Parmiters School

Post by foreverhopeful »

Just wondering how close you need to be to Parmiters to stand a chance of getting in on location - any ideas please?

Would love to hear from parents who have just got a place at the school based on location to know which roads they live in (if you don't mind giving out that information).

Also those on the location waiting list, where are you located please? Hope the lists move in your favour and you get a place - keep positive.

Lots of questions, sorry, but hope someone out there can help :?:

Suggest that you have a look at the sticky by WP showing the admissions stats, it looks like 1675m or something for Last year. What road are you? I know that Coates Way, boundary way, The Glebe, The very top of Harlech,Orchard close, the shires, Barley Brow and woodside Road have all had success in the past, are you in any of those?

Not on any of those roads I'm afraid :(

We are off Stewart Close in Abbots (Magnolia Avenue), across the park from the roundabout joining Woodside Road, Horseshoe Lane, College Rd, etc (by Tesco).

We may be OK on the 1675m thing because of all the paths across the park, but having read some other entries on how county work out the distances, I'm not sure we will ever be able to predict exactly how far they calculate us to be away from the school!

I'd love to hear from anyone who has been successful from over this side of the park?

Ok Foreverhopeful, that does sound a bit further than the other areas which I know have had some success.

No one is really sure how the county council measuring /mapping system works, and when you include paths/alleyways into the equation, it does get tricky.

I know that the path through from Woodside Rd to Harlech Rd does not get included in the calculations, hence those homes in the top end of Harlech have had joy, but the bottom end have not. WP mentioned somewhile ago, that schools are consulting on using the straight line/as the crow flies measuring rule once again to calculate the distances, which does seem fairer and easier to interpret, but, whehter this would filter down to Parmiters' s in the next few years, who knows, as I think the consultation related to schools within the HCC control and not voluntary aided schools.

Have the school given you any idea where you are on the waiting list? are you OK with your allocated school so far?

Good luck to you

All the consortium schools except Rickmansworth stipulate the HCC distance measurement, so they'll automatically switch over when the county does, i.e. for the 2011 intake. Rickmansworth use their own straight-line measurement; switching to the new county straight-line measurement would presumably save them some arguments.

Hi Foreverhopeful,
The last person admitted on distance this year was from around 1748m. We are about 300m from this. Admissions said that we were far more likely to get a place on academic than distance as people rarely turn distance places down. From what I can gather Horseshoe lane and Harlech Road area were successful this year. Good Luck. Every year is different.

Hi
I am on the distance waiting list at number 1, and I live about 1660 metres from the school. I only moved recently, if I had been at my new address before the application deadline I would have gotten in. As said before people rarely turn down distance places, but I only need 1 person to do so! Fingers crossed for everyone!

Thanks for your encouragement mn4538 - all the best for the next few weeks until you get definite news on whether you have got in on distance or not.

I keep checking Sticky's information but the Parmiters line is still blank - hopefully they will provide the data soon so everyone knows where they stand.

Good luck - please let us all know how you get on.
