Hello,

I'm in year 11 at SHSG, and I'm not sure if we've already had the induction day, I think it's due to be in the next couple of months, but I'm probably wrong.

I don't know if you've already got the information you needed, but I'll try and think back to my induction day five years ago.

All prospective students go into the hall/gym (don't worry, your daughter will be shown where to go) and they are put into what forms they will be in.
The form teacher comes to the hall and guides her/his form to what classroom they will be in for that year. You have a long talk with your form teacher and sometime throughout the day, there is an assembly where the headteacher welcomes everybody, explains the ins and outs of the school.
Then, you have a couple of lessons (I did music and English), just to get a taster of what SHSG school life is like.

That's about it really, the students have a normal lunch time mixing with the other students. More to the point, the atmosphere is very friendly, she won't get lost - there are lots of teachers, sixth forms and year 11 prefects to show them around.

I think a fair few schools hold induction days after the main exam times eg late June / early July - school tends to be quieter as the years 11 and 13 may well be on exam leave, and september is then not so far away.

Hi my dd is currently in Y7 - on induction day she went into the hall where the Y7 manager chatted to them about the day to day running of the school, found out what form she was in and met her tutor. Then they had a tour followed by lunch and two taster lessons in the afternoon - she had science and geography. She wore a tracksuit from memory. Y10's escorted them around the school. She was also given a handy booklet about what to expect in the first few weeks by the then Y7's.

She also bought some art stuff and sized up the pe kit which I ordered in the hall.

Hope this helps and good luck !
