Help with an IPS question...
....OK it's my turn for needing help (with the potential for completely embarrasing myself when the answer is obvious ) - I just can't understand it. Good job its DD doing the 11+ not me!
IPS Daily Practice Book 1, test 3.
Find the missing number in the third group
(24 [2] 6)
(35 [3] 7)
(48 [_] 6)
The answer is 6 but I don't understand why!
Many thanks
Dottie

As Patricia would say "if the number in the middle is smaller than the number on the outside then you are looking at dividing or minusing".
I think this one is a bit simpler than you are thinking.
With this one look at the two outside numbers
24 divided by 6 = 4, then take away 2
35 divided by 7 = 5, then take away 2 again
Apply this rule to the third
48 divided by 6 = 8, then take away 2 gives you the answer 6.
Hope this helps.
