No Ofsted for Outstanding schools?
It's being proposed to abolish Ofsted inspections for Outstanding schools and concentrate on those who really need it. What do you think?

well - I am quite glad to see that they will stop being inspected but how long is it reasonable to call a school an outstanding school if no one has looked for the last 10-15 years?
Re: No Ofsted for Outstanding schools?
I think: how will they know if standards then slip? They still need to be monitored, but maybe less rigorously.

Easy. Set a marker. Example - If GCSE grades drop by more than 5%, then no longer classified as outstanding and back into inspection regime.

But an outstanding school isn't just classified by its results though is it - what about pastoral care for a start!!

yes there is an "outstanding" (according to the banner) primary school I pass sometimes, not in a great area and rarely manages 11 plus passes but obviously manages to tick plenty of boxes to with trying and caring etc

Staff come and go. Cohorts vary from year to year. We have seen several schools go down from the heights of 'Ofsted outstanding', so it appears not to be well thought out if they do.

Crazy idea, I guess it's the first of many cuts we will be seeing
Re: No Ofsted for Outstanding schools?
Well, I can think of things I would rather see ringfenced and protected from cuts than Ofsted inspections, and surely no-one is going to argue that we don't need cuts?Looking for help wrote:Crazy idea, I guess it's the first of many cuts we will be seeing
Re: No Ofsted for Outstanding schools?
In 2007 -2008 there were around 14% outstanding school and now its down to about 8% which shows stanrads do slip. What else are we going to use assess school? Ofsted isnt the be all but its a start and I will be dissapointed to see them go simply because a school ticked the right boxes.
