Brilliant book. Try some of Wilkie Colins other books. The Moonstone is well known but some of his more obscure books are also very good. I have just read the Haunted Hotel which is much shorter than some of his other books but worth reading.

The women in white keeps the reader interested from start to finish - it really is one of those books which is difficult to put down - i have read some of his others but didnt manage to finish I love the way you have that being on the edge of your seat feeling throughout this book.

I have just finished reading Woman in White. What a wonderful read! Thankyou to whoever it was who suggested it. Although I had anticipated or guessed what would happen to certain characters it still managed to surprise me. What do you think of the first person narrative? I loved it! The first time I had read a book in a simila style was "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" by Agatha Christie. That is one of my favourite A Christie books because of the style in which it is written. Collins has written using first person narrative and tells the story through the medim of different characters. They tell the story from their point of view and try and justify their actions. This makes the book very "real". The only people not used to advance the story this way are Laura and Anne. This. IMO, makes their vulnerbility more apparent and you realise that these characters are at the mercy of the others. I shall now go off and get some more of Collins' books.

I think i suggested this book and for all the reasons you mention. I first read it when i was a poor student and got it from a second hand shop, when i was half way through i discovered that about 20 pages were missing! i was distraught and rang round the local libaries till i found one who had it in. I couldnt put it down. I then went on to read some more collins books but they never forfilled what the the Women in White did, it was a one off i think
