Interesting article on the BBC new today about grammar schools being advised against becoming acadamies.

My worries are that academies may be required to match the funding provided by the state, i.e. the parents may be tithed to the school or worse that it is a back door to privacy or that by losing a good relationship with local government they may be more subject to the whims of central government.
A much more major point should be the question of the autonomy of schools and the good judgement of head teachers and governors to decide what should be taught in their schools. Why should they have to become academies to do this? Why not give the freedom to decide where schools have shown themselves worthy?
