Registration for November 2010 test

Post by mike1880 »

Hi all, SCGSG and BV have some info on their sites about registering for the test this year. BV have mangled it somewhat, this is the SCGSG version:

http://www.suttcold.bham.sch.uk/Website ... 011doc.pdf

The phone numbers given are existing numbers for B'ham Admissions and KE GS admissions, not surprisingly.

20th July: edit to say the online application process is now available at the Foundation website:

http://www.kingedwardthesixth.org/apply.aspx

It's an Adobe PDF form this year and feels slightly wobbly compared to the previous system. (Note - ignore the photograph box on the form itself - when you've filled in the text boxes and printed a copy to use as a security blanket for the next 8 months, click on the "submit" button and the next screen will ask you for the location of the photograph to upload.)

Apparently just editing the old message isn't enough to nudge it to the top...

Hi Mike, do you know when you actually recieve confirmation of application if you apply online? Is it just before the test or 14 days after application as stated in the booklet sent home from school.

Just wondered if you have had any past experience of how it works.

Many thanks.

I'm expecting it to be 14 days after application - it would be too late otherwise for someone who's application went astray to identify that there was a problem and query it.

would have thought an on line application could manage to generate an automatic receipt?

There's a subtle difference between "online" and "automated". This one looks suspiciously like something that will be printed out and dealt with by hand.

ah - the famous "download onto a piece of paper......"!!

Still on line could at least say the thing has landed at the other end....

I wouldn't believe it if it did though, as I said it has quite a wobbly feel about it this year somehow. I'd think seriously about using the post this time - although obviously that has plenty of scope for problems as well!

It's definitely wobbly this year- I didn't have half the hassle filling out the form online with KEF (my first time - 2 years ago), as I've had this year!!
One of the boxes where 'Y' is needed is simply not working. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

The form itself is simple enough, best print it out and use a quill!

Is that the one where you pick the school/s? You just need to click on those (I preferred it when you put a preference for schools though - which I believe used to determine where your child would sit the test, goodness knows where we'll be this time). Or is it the declarations? You have to put a lower case y in those, capital Y doesn't work.

I'm not greatly impressed with the system this year.
