Allocation profile 2010

Post by scary mum »

Anyone know the final allocation profiles for this year's entry? Or a link to it? Just curious. How are everyone's DCs doing?

BCC have posted the 2011-2012 Guide for Parents on their site, and I believe this includes the 2010 allocation profile under each individual school profile

The distances shown there are as at 1st March 2010, not the final allocation profile as at end August.

We usually get to see those numbers sometime in October.

these don't look like the figures published in the Secondary School Guide just issued to Y6 parents?

No, they are different. At the bottom of the schools pages it states (the bold type is mine):
Information on 2010 entry allocation details the last admission rule where children were offered a place on 1 March 2010 or later from the waiting list (as at 1 June 2010 and excluding successful transfer appeals).
The final distances could still differ from those, although probably not by much.

So they are potentially EXTREMELY misleading don't you think? I am thinking particularly of Becky High. The above link says "Beaconsfield High School All applicants offered under rule 2 {3} (catchment siblings) and some allocated under rule 2 (catchment) to 6.728 miles." whereas the Guide for Parents says"All applicants offered under rule 2{3} (catchment siblings) and some allocated under rule 2 (catchment) to 11.146 miles"

So what do I do. We live about 9 miles away and can't figure out if we have a reasonable chance or not? I don't want DD to get her heart set on BHS if there really is no chance as implied by the first figure. The second figure implies a chance - does it mean that all girls who wanted a place who live withing 11.146 miles got one or did possibly just one girl that far away get in on appeal?

If you re-read the quote again drummer you will see that it says that the figures do not include successful transfer appeal candidates, only those allocated under the admission rules.

If successful appellants were included in the figures they would indeed distort the distances, because the outcome of an appeal does not depend on where the appellant lives.

So the true allocation distance on 1st June was 11.146 miles, and the answer is therefore that there is a chance, but it could be a nail-biting wait for you.

To Drummer,

Only just read your post. We live just within catchment of Becky High at about 11 miles and our DD got a place from waiting list end of May this year. So it was almost an all catchment offered. Fingers crossed for you it is the same scenario next year.
