Are children specifically tested on spelling at KS1, and is it done in a spelling test, or as part of more general writing?

Is there a list of common, high frequency words, that they are expected to be able to spell correctly at KS1? How is it assessed as part of a teacher assessment?

I got a list of "High Frequency Words" for key stage one from internet for my daughter when she was in year one.
