Help! Bumper apple crop!!

Post by bromley mum »

This year's cooking apple crop has been amazing. There is only so many apple pies, crumbles and cakes I can make (this also explains my presence on a thread in Rehab  ). I have given away huge bags to anyone who will have them but still have loads more (there is no place in the kitchen for anything else now!). Any ideas on what else I can do with them?

throw them at annoying neighbours?

put an 'honesty 'box outside the front door with bags of apples?

distil your own calvados?

We are in the same position - I have frozen, baked, crumbled, pied, pureed and caked!

There was a fab cake receipe in the Daily Telegraph (hope that is OK) a couple of Saturdays ago. It's really nice and a bit different. If not stewed apples with a sponge on top with custard - not slimming - but I am beyond caring at the moment!

Jams and apple sauce. Apples with stuffed honey and biscuit crumbs(cant remember the name  ) I like the honesty box idea.

Am looking for cake receipe but in the meantime - baked apples with toffee sauce.

Core and stuff apples as normal. Drizzle over honey - in bottom of dish put tiny amount of water, butter and soft brown sugar - this makes the toffee sauce - bake - eat - yum yum - then find the big diet thread!!

We have loads too. Baked apples are really easy so we're eating them often. Core, stuff with orange, cinnamon and brown sugar. A little water in the bottom of the dish. Serve with icecream.

Baked apple charlotte is good too, but the gluten free version was less than perfect.

Following the success (?) of the green tomato curry, moved, you don't by any chance have a recipe for cooking apple curry too, do you?
