Teaching maths basics using paper cups

Post by Y »

Some months back there was a programme on TV where a maths specialist had been drafted in to a primary school to help improve the school's SATS results.

He taught the children maths using little paper cups - even using these to demonstrate how fractions work. He also taught the teachers.

Can anybody point me to a link, or remember the name of the school, the specialist maths teacher or the programme?

Thanks!

If it's the right link, it would be nice to post on open forum for anyone else who may want to look at/use it.

Many thanks :D

I think a link to TeachersTV should be fine as it is a free resource and well-known to all teachers, so not really advertising.

I love teachers TV - my lower ability sets will sit glued to the board when I put on a relevant clip.

Thanks all. It's not the identical programme I saw on TV, but I'm pretty sure it's the same consultant. There are other related videos including:

I've just found the programmes I was asking about. They are 'Dispatches: Kids don't count', and are still available on 4 on Demand.
