Thanks for the link.

Although only in year 10 DS1 has started thinking about AS choices.

He has chosen his favourite subjects as he is more likely to be motivated and successful. So far on the list are Maths, Chemistry and Economics but we are struggling for a fourth choice from Further Maths/Physics/Biology/Geography. My feeling is that a second science subject is the safer option.

The Russell Group guide seems to support that choice.

Increasing numbers are taking AS Further maths as an 'extra' to demonstrate they can go beyond the A level requirements but still allowing 4 'different' A2 subjects.

Not sure how true this is but Further Maths has been described to me as being "Algebra" intensive. Just something I thought should be borne in mind.

The allocation of topics between Maths & FM papers changed from the year before last & is seen by some as having changed the balance slightly by shifting some of ther harder topics into the A2 FM compulsory papers..
A2 FM is generally taken by very, very able mathematicians so worth considering this too.
There is a fair amount of 'cross over' between Physics & Maths so maybe AS FM along with Physics might be a good combination if the workload can be managed?
