GL Maths Pack 1 paper 2 (map scale)

Post by Tulip »

Please could anyone help me on this sum?

A map of Holland is drawn to a scale of 1:400,000.

What real distance is represented by 1 cm on the map ?

The answer is : 4 km.

Thank you.

For a child I would cut this up more

1 cm represents 400,000 cm

100 cm = 1 m

So

1 cm represents 4000 m

1000 m = 1 km

So
1 cm represents 4 km
