Most schools expect the pupils to wait until they get back to school.

I know some who collected them yesterday. DD didn't as she thought they had to wait for next term. I imagine exams offices will be inundated at the moment so we are happt to wait - it won't make any difference.

The Year 9/10s really don't need their results until the start of term.

It's far more important that Year 11 are properly supported and given advice e.g. how to get a re-mark and any changes to AS options. In a large school this can take a considerable number of staff and it's better if only 180 or so pupils (or 300 in larger schools I have taught at) are on site.

I disagree. My son took his GCSE French in Yr 9 at the age of 14 of which he spent many months stressing about the exam and practising his oral and written work. I think it is rather inconsiderate if the school makes them take the exam at such an early age, of which I am totally against, then the least it can do is let them collect their result on the day or post it on. He has been anxiously awaiting his grade only to be told by mates that he will get it when he returns to school!! All the anxiety and hardwork and he still doesn't know his result.

You must have given permission for him to sit the exam early - the school can't force anyone to do GCSEs early.

As someone who has been involved in the business of preparing results to be distributed it is a very long-winded job. Precision and accuracy are obviously very important - double checking everyone has the correct slips of paper and the right exams - it take two hours even with a large number of staff helping.

Year 11s must take priority - there can be very difficult decisions for them and the school to make.

.

Is that right? The whole of DDs year will take their language GCSE at the end of year 10... not sure if there is much choice (other than doing 2 languages when you get to take them both at the end of year 11)

Did not give permission at all. As it is a comp with a specialism in language they have to get as many through as possible in Yr 9 and then in Yr 10 and Yr 11 they go onto to do their AS in the language!! Yr 9 is far too early for these children to be taking their GCSEs in subjects! Shall be voicing my disgust again with the school in September for this unnecessary pressure.
