The formatting got me.. .correction below...

-- Equations
2a + 2b = 112
2c + a + d = 78
2d + 2a = 76
b + c + 2a = 100

-- So we have
a + b = 56
a + d = 36
a + c = 44

-- Finally (after some subs)
a = 23
b = 33
c = 21
d = 13

Doing it in the order it asks:

column 3: D + A + D + A = 76
so halve that to get D + A = 38

column 2: C + A + D + C = 78
subtract D + A to get
C + C = 40
C = 20

row 4: B + 20 + A + A = 100
so B + A + A = 80

column 1:
A + A + B + B = 112
subtract B + A + A to get
B = 32

so A + A = 80 - 32 = 46
A = 23

so D = 15

Having fun on my coffee break with this one!! I did the following:

2A + 2D = 76
2A + 2B = 112

The difference between these 2 sums is 36, therefore 2B must = 2D+36

2A +(2D+36) = 112
A = 19
B = 37
C = 20
D = 19

Am I way off course?

aliportico - you made a small mistake - just informing for others understanding

so A + A = 80 - 32 = 48 - Not 46
