Anyone else feel just a little bit sick??

Post by Boopy »

Hi everyone... I can honestly say that the 11+ preparations etc have been the most emotionally draining experience that I've had to face as a parent. I personally went to a good church comp which was joined with a pretty dreadful comp in my 2nd year... net result, there's no way I'd want my daughter to go there!!

And so began the expense and parental taxi service of attending a tutor. Before my DD reached the age of considering secondary options I'd have laughed at the prospect of paying someone to help her get through the exams but a cold fear runs through my body at the prospect of her attending the school I did :(

She did really well in the mocks at the school and now we have the wait........ She doesn't seem to be bothered about it, but, I on the other hand cannot sleep and am considering whether chewing my nails may help lol. Does anyone else feel the impending sense of panic that your kid might not pass? I really want to open the letter before she knows it's here so I can deal with my own devastation before wrapping my arms around her and telling her it really doesn't matter.

I wouldn't describe myself as a pushy mum and I'm certainly not trying to make her live my dreams so cannot understand the impact this is having on my own life... am I just a sad neurotic heap or is anyone else nervous as ****?? x

You sound perfectly normal to me! I was like you a year ago, and will be the same in a year's time.

Boppy, you are more than normal :D !!! Every parent wants the best for their children (at least every parent on this forum 8) , if not what would we be doing here at odd hours of the day :roll:) and you are no exception. As you can deduce from my name I am out of borough and we parents (at our school) have had to come to daggers :shock: with the teacher for daring to enter the children for 11+; whereas most comps. in the borough are not as good :!: . You can imagine how dreadful I am right now (especially after having stood up for other parents) at the school gate knowing they know the results already and I do not :oops: . I dread the result day even more incase DC does not do well though she did her best and whatever the result I will be very proud of her for doing her best.

On the bright side, this exam has had positive impact on the children as most of them are now on the top tables in their classess while the schools are congratulating themselves on producing so many level 5s and possible 6s :twisted: as if it was just their effort :roll: .

The impact on the parents before the exams and the result can be draining. Yes, if the result does not go well, it can also be devastating but we just have to keep looking at the bright side :) . No child can remain the same academically having gone through the tutoring of 11+ as they would have improved :!: . So no matter the school they go afterwards, they will do better than they would have otherwise.

So Boopy, you have done well. Just hang on in there like every one of us :wink: as I am sure you will be back on Thursday to have a joyful scream on the forum.

Mitasol, Nice one :wink: . Some mothers do have them :!: .

We are in the same lunatic asylum!!!! Elated one minute(by good score in practice) and nervous wrecks with a small dip in scores. Sometimes I do question my fragile nerves....snap.....and I could be certified mad!!!!!! :!: Hmmmm babbling now.... :P

And I thought it was just a virus...exactly 5 weeks to go until E Day here in Birmingham.

The funny thing is, I can't remember this bit at all when ds1 went though it...I just remember the morning of the exams. Maybe I have blacked it out from my memory?

It's not helped that our primary didn't support 11+ and it took a row for them to do the practice paper and they didn't do that until the day before the test. Hope for their sakes all 6 children pass or there may be a war and official complaint made. Just praying that everyone on here gets the result they're hoping for x

I just read this article and had to share it:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/82 ... -life.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I would agree that the 11 plus is worse than childbirth...at least my labour with ds2 was 'only' 5 days long (shoulders were stuck). This process has been going on for months...

Um, thank you so much... that article made me smile. I'm officially nuts and can't stop obsessing about this test. The postman will roll up very late as usual next Saturday and will be wrestled to the floor for the letter lol x
