scores for CRGS
My child is due to sit the 11+ exam for CRGS on 19th November and I myself, am beginning to get quite nervous about managing my childs expectations. He ususally scores around 72 -80 out of 80 fro V.R, around 29 to 45 out of 50 for English and 35 to 38 out of 40 for maths. would I be wrong in assuming that he stands a reasonable chance? Someone mentioned to me that children drop around 10% on the day - is this correct? Nervously awaiting any replies.

Re: scores for CRGS
My son achieved 67% in last years 11+. This got him his first choice of CRGS and I believe he was one of the lower scores.
My son's scores did not drop on the day, in fact I think they improved slightly. This I believe was due to his relaxed state of mind and the understanding that the local comp was where he was going to attend, and anything else was a bonus.

Try reading through these threads. It should help calm the nerves.

Hi Anna
There is no such thing as fixed percentage of drop on the day
little bit of performance anxiety actually makes them do well
I think we need to give them a support and encouragement to maintain consistency
don't worry we are all going/ gone through this
good luck

I'd agree with the above posts.
DS took the exam last year. He was nervous on the day of the exam – not typical of him at all- and it actually worked to his benefit! For the first time EVER he didn’t make any silly mistakes it appears
Its all behind me but I can’t help but feel that strange mix of excitement anxiety as the exam approaches. I’ll surely be thinking of you all on the 19th! All the very best to you and your DC!

Thanks so much for all of your replies. Definitely feel much calmer.
Re: scores for CRGS
In June 2010, the last boy to have been admitted to CRGS for September 2010 had a score of 336.474. For KEGS that year the last boy admitted on allocation day had a score of 345.8635 and at 26 April the last boy admitted had a score of 343.5147. All these figures were contained in our appeal paperwork.
I believe that another 5 or 6 boys eventually got places at KEGS and that 4 more boys including our son got places at CRGS between June and the end of the first week of term.

Re: scores for CRGS
Just checked all the paperwork again and we didn't receive percentages from CRGS.
For KEGS the figures were:
Last boy admitted on allocation day English 29, Maths 34 and VR 61 resulting in standardised score of 345.8635
Last boy admitted as of 26/4/09 English 32, Maths 33 and VR 57 resulting in standardised score of 343.5147
I think this shows how complicated the standardisation process is but it does give an indication of what is needed. Bear in mind that the Enlish is out of 45, Maths 40 and VR 80.
