Most popular first choice boys' school ?

Post by mynameisbond »

Hi everyone - just interested to see which boys' grammar you all think is the most popular in terms of the CAF form rankings ? Some have told me that most who pass Wilson's put it first and others assure me that it's Tiffin which parents will always put first on their form(even though none of us will know the test outcome when we send off the form). Any opinions on this ?

Many thanks

I guess it depends what suits the child. I know most of my sons friends have all picked different schools. One wants Sutton Grammar first, and the others are split almost equally between Wallington and Wilsons. I think Wallington push them more and grades seemed better. If they are stronger in Maths then Wilsons seemed to be the choice. Wallington is more Rugby focused I believe and Wilsons more football. Sutton is a smaller school so felt more individual. They are some of my impressions of the schools, and they are as individual as the boys. Most people I spoke to seemed to be split between Wallington and Wilsons but with Sutton Grammar second, so it seems these two are very different.

Sorry I didn't include Tiffins because I live more local to the other 3 schools and for that reason none of the people I know have included it.

Also transport links can make a difference. Wallington and Sutton are both very close to trains stations whereas Wilsons is a bit further from a station. Wilsons is not in a brilliant area either and Sutton is harder to park for parents who have to drop off. That can all make a difference to peoples choices.

As well as being a good fit for the child, location makes a difference. Where we are, most parents think Tiffin is the only school, due to ease of transport. Sutton is doable, Wallington is tricky and Wilson's is too far, even though it's our favourite of the Sutton grammars.
