Dartford versus Gravesend

Post by Smiler »

I'd really appreciate opinions/advice on Dartford Boys Grammar versus Gravesend, bearing in mind we live less than a mile from Gravesend Grammar. Having looked at both schools last week, hubby and I much preferred Dartford. We think our DS would be happier there and offered far more opportunities (he got 420) but, having said that, we're still wrestling with the logistics of getting him there and back. Also, a few of DS's friends are going to Gravesend and he could easily walk there and back. All advice gratefully received.

I preferred Dartford too.
There are several buses from Gravesend to Dartford.
So, if your DS is happy to travel by public transport after school, then I'd go for Dartford.
Sorry, not much help, I know

Pick the school that best suits your son. You cannot go wrong with DGS. Transport wise, how about a train to Dartford and a short walk up West Hill, plenty of boys do this.

At the end of the day it is all down to how you feel, and there are pros and cons on both sides. However there is a lot to be said for being local. I dont know anything about Gravesend but know DGS is supposed to be good. You do have to consider logisitics of getting to the school especially in the winter months and also any after school events he may get involved in, as that makes the journey home later etc (Dartford has rugby every Monday night, for instance.). I think if Gravesend is a good school I would probably look at that as a preference, but as I said its your decision and there are pros and cons to both schools. Good luck.

Two years ago we looked at DGS, my DH loved it mainly because it reminded him of his grammar school. I felt it was old fashioned. My DS wasn't over keen but he'd already seen GGS and loved it. Ultimately GGS suited our DS with its set up, clubs, specialisms etc. I really think it may be a case of either going with your heart or going with your head by actually writing down the pros and cons  Sorry not much help just my opinion
