Can anyone recommend a good board game to play?

Post by Moonlight »

I would really like to sit down as a family this Christmas and play a traditional board game. No X-Box or Wii and no sitting in front of the telly just for something to do. Of course, Downton Abbey is the exception for Christmas Day! :D

Can anyone suggest a game that teenagers will be interested in for more than five minutes? I already have Monopoly, Cluedo and Frustration but if anyone can come up with something that all the family can play together, that would be great.

Cranium. Great fun, we have played it a mix of adults, young adults and teenagers and it's great fun,

eta there are several versions so you may need to choose carefully

Articulate used to go down well with the adults. We haven't played it for a while, so not sure how the kids would react to it.

What about 'Game of Life' recently which was good fun. I was a journalist and kept being sued. I obviously worked for the 'News of the World'!

What about Mousetrap - good fun, although, I prefer the older version than the newer toilet version.

The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game

Complex but addictive.

Another fan of cards, especially 500 Rummy which can go on for hours.

"Coppit" is tremendous fun for all the family. It is a very competitive variation of Ludo, and was originally called "Fang den Hut" (Catch the Hat).

I unearthed a set of it in a local charity shop a while ago, and it took me back many years because we used to play it at Christmas when I was a lass. You can still buy it online - just Google it. For some reason the rules aren't quite as I remember them, so we made up a few of our own to make it as fast and furious as it should be. (Probably senility on my part! )

Mousetrap and Jenga are favourites here.

Card games like WHOT, even Top Trumps go down well too.

OK, not a board game, but I will be buying a Christmas quiz off the internet. We had an Easter one last year & it was a great hit, appealing to grandparents, parents, teens & pre-teens. Costs £5.50. Very disposable I know but still good fun.
