Centre of rotation
DS is doing (y6) online school homework on rotation but is stuck on finding centre of rotation coordinates. Where two shapes are rotated on a grid he can work out the degree of rotation and whether clockwise anti-c...but the next question is what is the centre of rotation. How do you work this out? Any help appreciated.
Re: Centre of rotation
At that age I'd expect tracing paper and guess work - putting a pencil on the possible centre and trying it.
The correct method for GCSE is to join corresponding points and find the perpendicular bisector of two them - where these intersect is the centre. This uses the fact that each point remains the same distance from the centre after a rotation.
