Post by wellprepared »

Hello All,
Just wondering are there any other schools which take exam in standard format like kendrick in reading does.
came across so many resources,Most of the workbooks and practice papers are for multiple choice.
If anybody comes across any resources suitable for standard format please let me know.
Many thanks

Essex maths and English are standard format. We generally use Bond practice papers. The previous 2 years past papers are available from http://www.csse.org.uk/ but how similar these are to Kendrick's I won't know.

Kendrick only does VR and NVR so these wouldn't help unfortunately. I have also noticed that there are lots more MC materials. I have suggested that they add MC/STD as a search criteria on the shop for just this reason.

The Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools tests are in Standard format. There is a VR test and a NVR test both set by NfER. The NVR really might as well be MC - the only difference is that the answers are circled on the paper itself rather than having to be entered onto a separate answer sheet. If Kendrick sets similar type tests it is just as easy to use the MC versions of practice papers but answer on the papers themselves. For VR the standard format allows a rather larger range of questions so not all types which occur in Lincs tests appear in any commercially available tests, MC or standard format. However mostof the question types are covered by the 21 types as described by IPS and again it is usually possible to use MC tests but write directly onto the sheet. You do need to adjust the timings to match your own area - Lincs VR tests are more time-pressured, for example, than most commercially available tests.

I have always used the MC choice tests on top of the standard tests and just get the girls to write in an appropriate space next to the question. There can be one or two sets of questions which require you to see the MC options but otherwise it's no big deal really. In the immediate run up to the exam just make sure you practise on the standard papers only.
