BBC 1 The Big Questions

This programme is on right now and will be discussing, inter alia, the expansion of Grammar Schools.

Hmmm. The debate didn't really address the motion. It turned into a GS v Comprehensives argument. Too much time was given to one contributor who was so entrenched in her view that she was completely unable to understand the points made by others, let alone refute them reasonably. At no point did the debate actually touch on the new powers of the academy GS to expand their intake. Shame, really.

I never got round to watching it, I was going to I-player it but I won't bother now!

If these GS are able to increase their intake, would they then be allowed to open another building on a different site to accomodate this.

I think in Sevenoaks they are considering using an existing, disused school and having it as an satellite school to the main school (See Sevenoaks thread for more info on this).

That's the sort of thing the programme should have addressed. It would have been useful to discuss how far-reaching the powers are and the pros and cons of the possible sequelae.
