Just had our letter. The lowest qualifying score is as la boume posted, 231. Letter states that the results do not represent a linear scale. However, 280 may be considered as the max score, 140 the lowest, and a score of 200 is the average of all those who took the test.
Hope that helps.

Interesting hearing the Tiffin boys average score, this was not stated on the Tiffin Girls letter, or is it obviously the same and I'm not as clever as my DD?? I would have assumed girls' average to be slightly higher than boys... Any thoughts?

Those cut off scores just keep getting higher and higher!

I think that's the first time the boys' cut off score has been in the 230s, though happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Doesn't bode well for next year........

Congratulations to all those who were successful this year and fingers crossed for those sitting on the waiting list :D

It was 231 in 1997 when DS1 started.

Sorry if this is a dim question, but is there a 'pass' mark, different from the mark qualifying you for a place? DS score was miles from the cut off point, so I'd like to know if I can at least tell him he passed...

There is no pass mark for Tiffin Boys. They rank all applicants in order and offer places in this order. The top 140 this year all scored 231 and above so that is the cut off. If any of these boys turn the places down, they move down the rank order. The letter also tells you how many boys have scored 230 down to 220 so you can gauge from this whether your son might get in at a later date. Last year they took 26 boys off the waiting list. This year that number will only take you down a few marks beneath 231.
No boy really "fails" as they do not have a pass or fail mark.
