Movement on Parmiters waiting list?

Post by braden01 »

We applied under Academic admissions in catchment and got our second choice instead. Apparently she's 19th on waiting list - does anyone have an idea of approximately how far down the waiting list Parmiters have got to in last couple of years? I know this is going to vary but would be good to have an idea whether it is likely / possible / highly unlikely she'll actually get offered a place on Continuing Interest based on past experience.

My daughter is on the out of catchment waiting list for Parmiters. Does anyone know if there maybe children on the waiting list who have already got their higher ranked school or are Parmiters already aware of this and hence do not incude them on the list?? I know that the local authority do not put you on the waiting list if you have your higher ranking school just dont know if Parmiters have also taken this into account?

Parmiters will have 4 different waiting lists
  • Academic
    Music
    Distance
    Out of Catchment
So if someone turns down a Music place they then offer the next person on the music waiting lists.

In the past for the Music and Academic ( I'm not sure about distance and out of catchment) there will be multiple pupils at each position, approx 4 but sometimes more, sometimes less.

Two years ago we started at position 10 on the academic waiting list ( real terms position 40). We're given a slim but confident chance of getting a place. Initially the list moved quickly and then by Easter and May Day really really really slowly. I'll try to find a link to our thread from two years ago. No one can predict how quickly or how slowly a waiting list will move, there are so many factors involved so it can differ dramatically from year to year

In the end we didn't get a place it went down to position 8 or 9, which in real terms was approx position 35. That year I know the music list went down to at least position 5.

I'm sure someone we have some info on how far down the list went last year

Sorry I've no experience on the out of catchment waiting list, apart from as there are so few out of catchment places and I expect they're highly sort after so there may only be a little movement.

Here's the thread from 2 years ago ( all 22 pages of posts )

Thanks Ally for the info. You mentioned that there was quite a bit of movement initially, how did you monitor what position on the list had been allocated? Also you mentioned real terms when talking about positions, do you mean adding the places already allocated to the position on the list??

Its highly unlikely that my DD will get offered a place especially as the numbers allocated out of catchment are so small!! I guess its just hard to be realistic when you know there is a possibilty (however slight it maybe).

Hi, can I ask how did you find out you position on the waiting list? Did you receive a letter?

The only way of monitoring your position on the waiting list is by phoning the admission sectretaty at Parmiters. But the big question is how often? How often depends on how desperate you are and how near the top of the list you are.

By "real terms" I mean that with Parmiters having multiple pupils at each position. I don't think any other schools operate such a misleading system. So we started at position 10 on the academic list, but in real terms it was position 40 :( When I was phoning up and being told my DS was 4th or 3rd etc I was also asking how many actual pupils are ahead of him.

Ally so does that mean there is more than one person in each position?? That's really misleading! So if your 5th on the waiting list for example you would actually be about 20th as other people would have the same mark and so on the same position??

Exactly, very misleading. There are approx 4 pupils at each position, those that have got exactly the same mark.

I imagine it's different for those who have applied for a distance place. I don't know if there is anyone that can confirm this?

Ally, I just re-read the letter from parmiters and it states that 'The list positions given below are individual positions'. Do you think that means that they have changed how the list works compared to previous years?
