Easter Sports week at KEGS

Post by schoolteacher »

Hi, I need some advice. Does the school arrange any events before September for the boys going into year 7 or is this sports week all there is? And are any new year 7 to be boys going?

Any other advice from existing KEGS parents is welcome too!

Hi Schoolteacher. My ds will be starting at Kegs in September and he has decided not to do the Easter Sports Week. We would have considered it if it had just been for the new intake but as it is for current Y7 and Y8 boys as well as being open to boys from other schools it didn't really seem like the time for making new friends from his own year group.
Also, from a practical point of view we are not available to drop him off at 10 in the morning as we will be at work and four days in a row does seem a bit much even for ds who is quite sporty!
Dd is at CCHS and we found the hockey and netball sessions they ran as part of their induction very useful as it was once a week after school and over a period of seven weeks.
I would also be interested to know from any Kegs parents if there is likely to be anything else offered for induction other than the official nduction day in July.

My ds, starting Y7 in September, won't be going to the Easter Sports either. He considered it but will be at Barracudas down the road during the Easter break.

My son ( now year 8 ) attended the Easter sports week in the spring before he started at KEGS and really enjoyed it. Whilst it says it is open to year 7 and 8s in reality the vast majority were year 6's due to start in September. He made two very good friends and by the end of the week was making his way to and from the school alone, fantastic practice for when he actually started there.
The PE staff also got to know him so at least in one lesson when he arrived there were friendly faces and I think 6th formers help out too . I believe they also run one at the beginning of the summer holidays so if you can't make this one there is another chance in a few months.
I would thoroughly recommend it.

Sorry to go off the subject a little - But do you know if there is a new parents 'evening' or is it just on the Induction day from 3pm for us?

Thank you marigold - that is interesting. Maybe I will persuade ds to do the summer one - the Easter holidays are too difficult logistically especially as we have dd's french exchange student arriving that week as well!

The new parents evening is in September, a few weeks after they have started, so that you can meet the year head and form tutors. The induction day in July just has a bit at the end for parents.
