New Consortium-Newport, Walsall and Wolverhampton
Just came across this information which I thought I'd share with you all-although admittedly apart from Queen Mary's there is very little talk on here of the other schools.
According to the Wolverhampton Girls High School website for admisions in 2013 there is a newly formed consortium between Adams Grammar School, Newport Girls High, Queen Mary's Grammar School, Queen Mary's High School and Wolverhampton Girls High School. It looks like all schools now have the 2012 exam date set for Wednesday 12th September with registration forms to be received by schools by 13th July.

Thanks for that information x
Re: New Consortium-Newport, Walsall and Wolverhampton
I am definitely being a moron. Do you think you could please post the link to that information.
I haven't been able to find it on google or on the website and I did a search!
Thanks

I think the only place it appears is on the WGHS exam registration form:

Thank you Mike
Yes- that's where I got the information from, although I also couldn't find any other mention of it anywhere else on their website or on those of the other schools, although they have all now updated their websites to reflect the date of the exam.

Thanks for that.
It is a bit annoying that they do not mention it anywhere else!

Hi Elizabeth and any one else with an interest in these schools
I just thought I'd post an update to let you know that Queen Mary's Girls have now posted an information leaflet with lots more information- I imagine it will available on all websites soon, if not already as I haven't had chance to check them all, or available at open days.
I'm sorry but I am not sure how to attach a link to the document, but I'll have another look later when I have more time. Maybe someone can help me out in the meantime or point me in the right direction?
Just thought I'd draw attention to the admission numbers for 2013 quoted in the leaflet:
AGS up to 97 from 90 (+7)
NGS up to 84 from 56 (+28) (planning permission has been granted for new classrooms to be built)
QM (boys and girls) up to 112 from 96 (+16)
WGHS remains at 108
(current admsiions are from memory so please forgive me if I have misquoted them)
Surely very good news for everyone applying for 2013 + or appealing for 2012

Re: New Consortium-Newport, Walsall and Wolverhampton
Thanks for the info.
So now pretty much every Grammar in the region, incl. Warks Grammars, has decided to expand, except for the Birmingham Grammars.
I do hope they have something in the pipeline, for by the time my '07 born (highest birthrate year) ds sits his exam, the competition is going to be crazy

Re: New Consortium-Newport, Walsall and Wolverhampton
This is good news all round, especially for Newport out of area candidates.
DD has been offered a place at Newport , but I am thinking of 2nd DD taking the test in two years time. I explain:
2012 Newport Allocation:
300 candidates took the test (80 within area and 220 out of areas)
Within Area: 30 candidates were offered places
Out of Area: 26 candidates were offered places with last offer made at rank 42
10 girls were placed on a waiting list.
Historical data (2006 to 2012)
Year - Applicants - In area ( Offer ) - Out of area ( Offer )
2006 - 231 - 68 (33) - 163 (23)
2007 - 258 - 67 (32) - 191 (24)
2008 - 211 - 52 (20) - 159 (36)
2009 - 265 - 70 (31) - 195 (25)
2010 - 291 - 88 (39) - 203 (17)
2011 - 260 - 68 (21) - 192 (35)
2012 - 300 - 80 (30) - 220 (26) [* 338.2 (112.7) calculated standardised score of last candidate with offer of a place, rank 42 out of 220 ]
Average- 259- (70 - 29) - (189 -27)
[*]Calculated from Standard Normal Distribution curve with mean of 300 and standard deviation of 43.8 [/size]
Expecting a similar number of girls within area to apply in future years ( average of 70) and similar number of places offered (average of 29), then the remaining 55 places (28 extra) will be available for out of area girls. This is indeed a very good news for 2nd DD .
