Bond question
Please help trying to help my son with this and our answer is different to bond's answer.
This is from 9-10 book2. Paper 9 question 21
Wurzitts & daughters make super-wurzitts. Each super-wurzitts is 3m long. On the conveyor belt there is room for 11 super-wurzitts with a space of 1m between each pair of super-wurzitts. How long is the conveyor belt.
Thanks

Re: Bond question
11 x 3m = 33m gives the total length of the super-wurzitts if they were laid end to end.
If the wording means that there is 1m between each super-wurzitt then there are 10 spaces each 1m long = 10m (11 objects will have a total of 10 spaces between them)
So the total length is 44m.
If the wording means that there is 1m between each super-wurzitt then there are 10 spaces each 1m long = 10m (11 objects will have a total of 10 spaces between them)
So the total length is 44m.
Re: Bond question

Re: Bond question
the wurlizters are in pairs, so only 5m is needed between 11 of them.
38m in total!
38m in total!
Re: Bond question
Finger trouble on my part, I meant to type 43m not 44m!
faitaccompli - totally agree with you, I couldn't decide if a super-wurzitt was already a pair because it had two things in it (a wurzitt and a daughter) - a bit like a pair of socks! Or whether two super-wurzitts together make a pair - I now know it was the latter!
