Synonyms/Antonyms

Post by ontarget »

Does anyone know if the DC are given any clues for the synonym, antonym questions e.g. do they choose from a number of options or are some of the letters filled in or do they just have a blank sheet and need to find the answer without any form of clue?

They are given the word and then provided with a set of options to choose from i.e. it is multiple choice

MCQ. Really!!! I did not pick that up from the Exam Content sticky,

If that's the case, then it makes these sections relatively easy.

You got me worried there optimist, I thought I might have given out misleading info, but I checked with DS and the sticky: it is definitely mcq. The only difficulty is that sometimes they know the word provided but have never heard of the words given as options or vice versa.

The section is difficult on 2 counts:-

Firstly, the words or options which are difficult and with many words that children have never heard of before (e.g. subterfuse, inaugurate orthodontist ...)
Secondly, the intense time pressure. In some previous actual exams they have had to answer up to 80 questions in 10 mins, which only gives then 7.5 secs for each question. Many children just panic and guess the lot with disasterous results.

That would be a synonym not an antonym - I guess you might get choices such as:-
mathematician
dentist
archiologist
geologist
