pls Explain Bexley Scores

Post by fred »

Hi, I would be grateful for an explanation on the scoring system in Bexley.

Assuming that the pass score is 218.

109 minimum score per subject would get you a pass mark.

would a combination of say 103 and 115 also be deemed as pass or do you have to a minimum of 109 per subject?

this is from the info re Bexley:
There is no pre-set ‘pass’ mark. The two standardised scores are added together to give a total, and children are ranked according to the total score. Both tests carry equal weight. In 2008, 4520 children sat all the tests and 1294 achieved the selective standard, with 814 selective places available. The 180 children with the highest scores are guaranteed a place at their preferred grammar school in Bexley.
However, Townley Grammar School take the view that an aggregate score of 215 meets the standard that is suitable, those who score below 215 will not be considered for that school.

Thanks Hermanmunster,

this will probably make a slight difference in preparation, in that we can try to gain maximum marks on thier stronger subject whilst continously seeking to improve on the other.

Hermanmunster, am I correct that this is different for the Kent Test in which a minimum of 140 is needed per subject?

Hi Fred,

140 is the maximum score per paper in the Kent Test. 120 is average minimum score required for a pass.

The scores are standardised and vary from year to year, but a score of around 50% usually equates to 120, and anything over 75% equates to 140.

Hi Muggle

thanks for the reply and the information. it seems that Kent has a lower pass mark to Bexley but you need to get a minimum score for all three subject which is roughly 120 (aprox 70ish%)

Bexley do not seem to have a minimum score per subject as they consider the total score only, roughly 218. However 109 per subject approx equates to 80ish %.

Interesting differences
