Susan Daughtrey Practice Test Papers test 6 Q52 help
Choose 2 words, one from each group, that are opposite in meaning.
(mobile caravan travel)
(camp holiday stationary)
My son's answer was travel and stationary as he argued that travel was also moving from one place to the other place.
My answer was same as the model answer which was mobile and stationary. But I don't know how to explain to him why the answer mobile was a better answer.
Please help me.
Many thanks again.

I would say that mobile and stationary are both adjectives, whereas travel is a verb

It helps to think about parts of speech.
The car was mobile, the car was stationary, the car was travel ... er ... no.
Try putting words into a sentence to reveal how they work/don't work.
As yoyo says, if the children have been taught grammar properly (highly unlikely, in my experience) they will recognise adjectives immediately.

Thanks yoyo123 and Sally Anne.
My son understands now. My sons knows travel is a verb and stationery is an adjectives, but he doesn't know mobile is an adjectives as he doesn't use this word very often.
Will this similar questions come out in Glous exams?

Many thanks Sally Anne. Your reply not only can help my DS understood why he was wrong. It also made him realised that he needed to learn the grammer of each word as well (but not just its meaning or opposite meaning).
It helps him to realise the importance of grammer in 11+ exams.
Many thanks again.
