End of year 3 report and NC levels for 'reading'
Hello,
My DS brought his report home this week. He took the optional end of year 3 SATS and we were given the end of year NC levels for the various subjects (which is compiled from both the optional tests plus teacher assessment). Can anyone tell me, does 'Reading' include written comprehension? It has got a list of criteria, which includes 'understands and can respond to what is read' and 'understands and uses research skills' but I have no idea if that includes a formal written comprehension.
Can anyone shed any light for me?

Yes - 'reading' means understanding a text and interpreting it.

Thanks for replying, Guest55. Sorry to be a bit nitpicky but can I just make sure: so that means that DS will have been assessed on a WRITTEN comprehension?

I haven't seen a Year 3 optional test but the KS2 papers are here:

and scroll down.
The comprehensions require a range of responses.

Ok, many thanks for that. It would seem DS has improved greatly on his comprehensions. Just got to get him writing more in class now!
