How early to start preparing for 11 Plus exams?
Dear All,
I have just started thinking about 11 Plus exams for my DD and would like to know how early do people start preparing their child?
I have heard that some prepare for 2 years and some have even put their children for classes like Kumon, etc from Year 1.
Please share your experiences..
Thanks

This varies so much from child to child. DS took his 11+ 2 years ago and started preparing at the beginning of year 5. DD will take hers next year, but as she lacks DS's confidence we have started earlier with her, but very low-key still.

Also depends on the format of the 11+ and the area you are in.
Impossible to answer the question unless you tell us the area you are considering.

Re: How early to start preparing for 11 Plus exams?
My DD began her tutoring sessions in January of this year and she sits her 11+ in about 3 weeks !!
We live on the Wirral and its 2 x verbal reasoning tests.
I can only speak for myself but I have come to realise in the last few months just how important vocab is. If I could go back two years I would make my DD read so much more! Vocab is the area where most kids lose marks. I do believe that if my DD was an avid reader (she's not really) it would be a lot easier. Oh well time will tell.
Hindsight is so wonderful!

Some start in year 4 ( or before), but in Kent, most seem to start in year 5.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

We would be considering mainly the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire areas. And also Surrey fee-paying Grammar schools such as the Guildford High School as a backup plan.Guest55 wrote:Also depends on the format of the 11+ and the area you are in.
