Need to choose word which goes with both pairs ..

Security
Awake
Brain
Mind

Answer is Mind but DC puzzled and so am I. Can someone explain reasoning behind it please ?

Mind goes with Protect and guard, as it can mean watch over e.g. in childminding, "mind your backs"
It also goes with thinking and conciousness as these are using the mind (in this case as a synonym for brain).
