Will my daughter Get a place in wolverhampton Girls High

Post by Taj »

Hi all,
I am a nervous parent.
The letter came this morning and says my DD was ranked 110 for WGHS, and the last qualifying place last year was 146.

Are her chances good ?

thanks all.

Don't be so nervous Taj. I would say she's got an excellent chance of gaining a place. :)

How can I be confident.

For each rank is the only 1 child ?. Or can there be more the on girl on a ranking? Apologies in advance for my ignorance.

Taj,

I think you have an excellent chance!!

To give you an example, a lot of parents will be applying for Wolverhampton Girls as well as KEFW and may be QM High. And there is a fair possibility that some of these parents will be choosing KEFW and QM over WGHS. So that should free up a lot of places.

Below are the figure from QM High for the past 3 years, just to give you an idea. Hope this helps.

QMH: 112 places are available. Over the last 3 years where 96 places were available:

2010: final allocated position 253
2011: final allocated position 241
2012: final allocated position 268

She did brillantly well, quite sure she would get a place. My dd was offerred NGHS n WGHS we are opting for Newport and I know of 2 others doing same, so guess she is in. :D

Like many parents, getting your head around the 'ranking' and what it means took some time.

My understanding is the rank is only assigned to one child. i.e. there is not more than one child on a given rank.

So my daughter is ranked 110, should be ok, as some parents who have been offered places at Newport, QM and WGHS, will opt for Newport or QM .

does anyone know how they handle tie breaker scores or is this very unlikely?

Yes-I believe it is distance that determines a tie-break-nearest by straight line measure, after looked after or previously looked after children.
